TV Style Ads to hit Xbox Live
In a further move to grab every pound, Microsoft are to introduce 15-30 second advertisements as you open applications on the Xbox Live Dashboard. Offering a new platform for advertisers to showcase their products, the videos will bring even further revenue to the company. All this added to Microsoft Games on Demand and Microsoft’s Further plans to monetise the platform it will soon seem that you’ll perhaps being seeing a greater proportion of things you don’t want to see.
However, although the scheme has critics, it does have a future. With more and more people watching movies and TV shows on their games device; the increasing overlap of content seen on game consoles, televisions and the internet advertising will help pave the way for more, and better content on all devices.
“With the growth of Xbox Live, advertisers no longer have to choose between digital and TV advertising – we’re offering the impact of TV and the interactivity and addressability of digital in one platform,” said Microsoft’s general manager of Xbox Live Entertainment and Advertising, Ross Honey.
Honey continued; “As more and more industry leaders like ESPN work with us to help monetize their content on Xbox Live, TV media buyers win with the ability to extend their standard TV spots to this highly engaged consumer audience.”
Do you see this as an inevitable future? Or are you angry to have to watch ads on a system you already have to pay for? Let us know in the comments below!

I am angered by this. It is a games console and therefore should not have advertisement in it if we wanted it then let us have XBL for free instead of paying 40 pounds a year. We pay to use it therefore Gold members should not have to view these adverts. If I wanted adverts I would watch TV or go on the Internet.
I find this a disgrace and basically a middle finger to the Xbox fans. I am hoping this idea will not go through as the Xbox 360 is the best console out there and adverts will ruin the experience.
If you don’t want to have ads, disconnect your console. You’re getting ads via Xbox Live – which is their online service.
People complain about “ads on a service I pay for” all the time in reference to Xbox Live, but say nothing about the ads on cable TV. I pay just over $100 a month for satellite TV and it’s inundated with ads. I paid $56 to take my wife and 5 year old to see Lorax in 3D and it had a ton of ads before it.
PSN is free and it has ads for content on it too. The outrage when it’s Xbox Live seems pretty disingenuous.
I am entitled to my own opinion. I should be able to play my games online and not have to suffer for these ads. I also don’t own a ps3 and don’t really care less what Sony do as I am an Xbox player.
Tv I expect it from but from a games console no. I know Microsoft are trying to make an entertainments system however putting ads up is going to anger a lot of people in the process. PS have it and free online play that I can understand but paying to play online and getting ads is ridiculous. I will stand by my views and will not unplug my console even if the ads did appear.
