LEGO LOTR?

E3 UPDATE!  LEGO LORD OF THE RINGS – CONFIRMED: OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED, NEW TRAILER RELEASED!!

***MORE DETAILS TO COME!!***

LEGO LEAK!

It hasn’t been formally announced yet by Warner Bros., Traveller’s Tales or TT Games, but it is coming. LEGO Lord Of The Rings will be joining the line-up of movies turned LEGO game hits. LEGO LOTR will be following in the square footsteps of LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman, LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Pirates Of The Caribbean. Considering the previous installations, the trilogy of LOTR seems a natural, if not obvious choice. Especially this year, as New Line’s The Hobbit (Part 1) comes to theaters in December, the timing is perfect for a LEGO style visit to Middle Earth.

According to a story published today by Xbox360Achievements, “The news was revealed by leaked images of new LotR LEGO toy boxes, distributed to reviewers, carrying logos for video game developer Traveller’s Tales and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive.” Likewise, MCV reported today that “bloggers and toy reviewers” have been sent items bearing the trademarks for Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. (The LOTR and Hobbit edition LEGO toys are expected to begin appearing on retail shelves in June.) Prior to all of this, Variety Magazine (Ben Fritz) reported in 2009 that Warner Bros had officially secured the game rights for LOTR; thus the rumor was born. The original article has since been relocated or removed, but defunct links to it and this pasted excerpt (via The Brick Life) remain (along with the fact that Warner does retain the aforementioned rights). It does not stop there, however…

The Pre-Order Sale from Shop-To (prior to its removal):

Now, that rumored game has been unofficially confirmed via a further leak by online retailer Shop-To who listed the game along with a special offer for pre-order. (Perhaps that October date in the offer was meant to be the start of pre-ordering? Actual release by October 26 of this year just strains credulity for me at this point. After all, LEGO City Stories, which launches this December was announced at E3 in June 2011.) Shop-To has removed the posting, but (as with the saying of the bell that cannot be unrung) the leak cannot be unsprung! Though technically a formal confirmation has not yet been given by its makers, the indications are glaring and I would expect an official announcement soon, if not at E3. In the meantime, I’m quite convinced and more than happy to be expecting LEGO LOTR. As an eager fan and player of the previous LEGO titles, I will be paying close attention for anything further and look forward to updating this when the official confirmation comes.

UPDATE:  LEGO Lord of the Rings is confirmed for release on October 30th of this year.  HUZZAH!!
