Assassin’s Creed – Revelations Preview – Guilds and Customization
New details regarding Assassin’s Creed: Revelations have been revealed.
As expected, the bulk of Revelations is set in Constantinople, which is split into four major districts: Constantine, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata. You’ll also be paying a visit to Cappadocia. Ezio, who is now over 50 years old, is on the hunt for seals hidden throughout Constantinople. These seals unlock the memories of Altair’s life and you’ll be playing as Altair during these sequences.
Ezio has a new tool called the hookblade, which allows him to use zippiness set up throughout the city. Ubisoft reckons this new piece of equipment speeds up traversal by 30 percent. The hookblade can also be used to reach out and pull enemies in for a sweet combo. As a result, the control scheme has been modified and using the Circle/B button controls the hookblade while Triangle/Y controls projectile weapons and bombs.
On that note, Ezio can use a frighteningly large variety of bombs. There are over 300 different types and players can make them by using the new crafting system. Eagle Vision has been adapted into Eagle Sense, giving Ezio the ability to “focus on a character and see where he’s been.” You can then get a sense of where said character will go and, if you’re quick enough, lay a trap, set a bomb or wait in ambush.
The Borgia Towers concept has been expanded as well. However, instead of simply destroying towers this time around, Ezio will also be establishing Assassin Dens throughout the city. You’ll have to complete various assault scenarios to reduce the Templar presence before acquiring a new den. You can then upgrade the buildings, add ziplines to rooftops, as well as convince guards to remain neutral instead of hostile.
However, should you gain notoriety, you’ll risk losing a den. You can send your own assassin’s to defend it from the attacking Templars if you’re not close enough. Moreover, assigning a master assassin to the den will guarantee its safety. The assassins levelling mechanic has been expanded to 15 from the initial 10.
Ubisoft has also done away with traditional mission set ups in favour of random events in order to make the world more immersive. You might just stumble across a storekeeper being robbed or someone asking for help at random throughout the game.
As for Desmond, the poor guy’s back in the Animus where he has found a safe mode called the “Black Room.” Desmond is able to access his lost memories in this room and the gameplay takes more of a “narrative-fueled puzzle” approach. By manipulating and creating geometric shapes in the environment, Desmond can reintegrate the fragmented layers of his subconscious.
Ubisoft also notes that they are using a new method of facial animation and mocap called Mocam. Describes it as an “intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire.”
Multiplayer is back as well, but it’ll be integrated much more into the narrative since that’s a huge part of the Assassin’s Creed series. Good news is that you’ll be able to customize your character’s appearance as well as create guilds.
